Hi, I’m Anna! Welcome to my blog. I envision this is going to be a space where I chat about all the things I love, Interior Design wise and more! This is my first blog post (EXCITING!) so I thought I’d introduce myself and tell you a little more about me.
I live in Whangarei, Aotearoa New Zealand with my partner, 2 kids and our tiny cat Slim. Riley is 13 and Stella is 10. They split their time between their dad’s house and our house, which means the weeks that they are here we get to really focus on family and spending time together. These are the golden years and we are making the most of them! This also means that the weeks they are away give me plenty of opportunity to nip down to Auckland for showroom visits, see the latest products and connect with my suppliers.
Our home was built in the early 1930s and she is a beauty; tall ceilings, native timber floors and filled with character. We are currently working on getting her physically fit. If you’ve had the luck to own an old home you’ll know that there can be a lot of time and effort involved in getting them up to scratch. We have big plans for her. I’m looking forward to the time when all the ‘behind the scenes’ work is completed and I’m able to get the kitchen of my dreams! In the meantime I’m enjoying expressing our personalities through paint, custom wallpaper and specially chosen furniture and accessories.
Our family aims to live in a way that is environmentally ethical and sustainable, whilst still enjoying the luxuries of today. We shop at the local farmers markets, grow lots of our own veggies (truth – my partner is the gardener in our home – I sometimes help by pulling up weeds!) and we practice reuse and recycling as much as we can. Many of the furniture items in our home are beautiful vintage pieces that I have sourced and modernised. We also aim to buy NZ made wherever we can. My design philosophy, both in my own home and when working with clients, combines new with old, creating a home that is purposefully and consciously built, while keeping environmental factors in mind.
I am really, super passionate about helping people create beautiful spaces to live in. People’s homes should be their sanctuaries, and a reflection of their personalities. To this end I feel so privileged to be invited into peoples homes and lives, to be given the opportunity to help create spaces that speak of the people who live in them. My role is as a facilitator, taking the hard work out of the design process by doing the research and sourcing, then presenting the best options. I look for Items that will work together in various combinations, while adding in a bit of the unexpected for additional effect. Clients are empowered to make decisions that will have designer impact, without the risk of making expensive mistakes. I like to work WITH my clients, letting them be involved in the process as much as they desire to be.The relationships that are formed often bring me as much joy as seeing the design come to life.
When creating and building a home that reflects your individuality and personality it is so important to know and trust the person who is helping you. I hope that you feel like you know me a little better now. If you are looking for someone to work with and think we would be a good fit, please get in touch for a free consultation. I look forward to meeting you!
